Horseshoe Crab

This horseshoe crab painting was made on watercolor paper with gouache. Horseshoe crabs are a big part of modern medicine, their copper based blood allowing impurities to be found in new batches of medication.

European Green Crab

This European Green Crab or Green Shore crab was made on watercolor paper with India Ink watercolor paints. The sand texture of the painting was achieved by sprinkling sea salt on a wet layer of water and paint and allowing the salt to dry. European Green Crabs are highly invasive to the shores of the US. They have no natural predators in the areas that they spread to and devour many important soft shell clam and bivalve species.

Whale Shark 1

This painting is one of a three part series of whale sharks that I painted. This painting was done on watercolor paper with gouache. It's a painting of a feeding whale shark next to a full grown adult man. It was actually a photo taken by my older brother on a family trip to Cancun, Mexico. Whale sharks are one of my favorite animals and being able to see this creature in the wild was an experience I wish I could re-live for the first time.

This was a painting done in my senior year of high school for the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). It was done on canvas board with oil paint. It's a self portrait depicting three of my common expressions while painting. This piece was meant to be a reflection of what I feel most artists go through internally. Once the painting is started and halfway done the work to finish it becomes tiresome and unexciting. Even with an expressive hobby like art, too much of one thing can cause one to lose motivation. The piece being worked on feels more like a chore and a job rather than an activity done by choice out of enjoyment. This piece is meant to look rushed, chaotic, and unfinished. The words in place because when I'm painting, getting out negative emotions via paint on canvas helps me continue and I can always cover them up once I eventually complete the painting.

This painting was very personal to me. It was another painting done for VASE, again on canvas board and oil paint. The background was done over the initial painting with aggressive strokes of oil pastel. This painting is another self portrait of myself peering from the shadows of a horned skull. Ever since I was a kid I would get these vivid nightmares and to this day, a freshman in college, those nightmares are prevalent. The skull is meant to represent some sort of evil, the one present in my dreams. I'm behind this skull, controlling it, because even though the nightmares don't feel like they're apart of me, it's still my imagination at work. The scrambled writing in the background reads "don't sleep" over and over again. This piece was a way for me to tackle the way my mind addresses things, now when I wake up in a cold sweat I can remember that it's all me here and I'm able to get over my fear.

This was a pin designed for the TRPD Baseball team for a nationwide baseball tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. The pin was created to represent the team and the heart of Texas. These pins are traded among different baseball teams from around the country.
